Hey David and Carl,

SO, here is my ideal for you guys with regards to Animal Farm. The novel is a literary and symbolic reference to the Russian Revolution. I would like you to teach the class about the following points. We can talk about how to do this later in the week.

1. What is communism and what is socialism according to Karl Marx? Read pieces of the Communist Manifesto that I will provide for you.

2. What makes this philosophy ideal? What makes this philosophy problematic?

3. Was the French Revolution a communist revolution?

4. An indepth description of the Russian Revolution:

a. it's goals
b. it's leaders (profile Stalin!)
c. evaluate whether or not it was successful or unsuccessful
d. what is life like under Stalin's communist regime for the Russian people between 1919-and 1939, when WWII begins?

5. An of course, how does Animal Farm relate to the Russian Revolution? Here is where you can bring in your blogs (dialectic journal responses) to highlight the connection to the class...You may even find a section of the book you want the class to read...

SO, that's a lot. A bunch of thoughts. Think about it as you begin to read, and we can discuss details later in the week. This is a challenge, an additional project, that you should take on because it will be rewarding for you and beneficial for the class to have you instruct them.
