Class discussion

I think a lot of interesting ideas were presented. I think that war is inevitable because humans are like animals at times.I thought it was interesting that I connected war to improvement. I didn't get to elaborate on that idea very much, but, war increases competition between nations. Competition is the only way to get technological progress. I thought it was interesting hearing from people what they've heard from veterans. They said some had a very hard time talking about what happened. Another really interesting thing was brought up. Nelson said something like, those who order the crime are just as bad as those who execute it. I agree and disagree, when it comes to war you really cant do that. it leads to horrible treatment of POW's. You pretty much have to exclusively punish the leadership. In an abstract thought on the other hand, I believe that the leadership should assume little responsibility, especially in a democratic nation. The leadership just presents ideas. Ideas can do no harm, action is the only thing that can do any damage. So In theory its the people who execute the ideas that are responsible, but it really cant work like that in reality.
